Oxford Literary Festival Appearance

I did a signing at th Oxford Literary Festival last saturday, and they asked me to do a drawing for their Big Frieze, which is going to be displayed in a school. I drew a big picture of Chitty in her VW camper guise, and Charlotte took some pictures.

It's difficult drawing standing up. That's the beginnings of a grimace . . .

Penn-manship

My old accountant had a very dramatic inner life. He would refuse to speak about money on the phone, and seemed convinced that he was under surveillance by 'the man', despite being a perfectly ordinary high street bean-counter. 

Outwardly soft-spoken and neat, he clearly thought of himself as being more like the shady 70s lawyer played by Sean Penn in Carlito's Way.

 I was describing him to a friend this morning, and drew this guy. He's not my ex-accountant, but is, I think, pretty close to how he sees himself.

"Did I pull you out of a thirty year stint in five years? No, I filed your tax return. But I would have. If you'd, you know, asked me. Anyway listen, we shouldn't talk about this stuff on the phone, you know what I'm saying?"
